Day 2: ITA Midwest Regional Women's Tennis Tournament

The Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus was filled with Division I women's tennis athletes from around the nation today for day two of the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. Singles started at 8:30 a.m., and doubles began action at 2:00 p.m.
Minnesota's Ida Malmberg defeated Tayo Bailey of Butler, 6-4, 6-2 this morning, advancing her to the main draw tomorrow where she will face Elisabeth Exon of Michigan.
Malmberg played undoubtedly well against her apponant for the win. "I was nervous against Bailey because she was tough and had a different playing style, but I played smart and stuck to the game plan." Malmberg said at the end of the day.
Another Gopher win was captured by Jane Anderson against Meredith Vincent of Ohio State, 6-3, 6-2, to also advance her to tomorrow's main draw.
After a tiring battle yesterday that brought Minnesota's Marina Bugaenco her win against Roemer (Northwestern), she was defeated today by Brooke Beier of Purdue, 6-1, 6-0, and will not advance to tomorrow's competition.
Minnesota's Nischela Reddy will have her singles match against Audra Cohen from Northwestern at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
Doubles competition kicked off by a win from Minnesota's Danielle Mousseau and Ida Malmberg over Karen Gustafson and Pascale Schnitzer from Michigan State, 8-5. The duo went on to lose their second match against Beatrix Csordas and Gergana Ganeva from DePaul University (8-4).
Tomorrow will be the first and second round for the singles main draw, along with a round of 16 doubles.
