Double the players, double the fun; Doubles matches started the day on an exciting note. Three matches ended in scores decided by three or less points. Alexis Prousis and Valerie Vladea of Northwestern topped Notre Dame's talented duo of Sarah Jane Connelly and Kristina Stastny, 8-5. Illinois' Macall Harkins and Brianna Knue followed suit, outlasting a Univesity of Michigan team of Elizabeth Exon and Nina Yaftali in a barnburner, 8-6. Perhaps the most exciting doubles action came as Indiana's Linday Martin and Katie McFaffigan warded off a tough Ohio State team of Lindsey Adams and Caitlin O'Keefe, 9-7.

The excitement continued into singles play, although the Golden Gophers struggled in their bid to advance players in the tournament. Jane Anderson won her first set versus conference foe Hala Sufi of Purdue, but lost the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Ida Malmberg faced Michigan's Elizabeth Exon after a big day yesterday against Tayo Baily of Butler. Malmburg just couldn't quite get her game going this afternoon and Exon came out with the 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Maroon and Gold's Nischela Reddy also struggled to find her rhythm against No.1 seed Audra Cohen of Northwestern. Cohen was able to win handily, 6-1, 6-1. Cohen also defeated Kristina Stastny of Notre Dame, 6-3, 6-1, in her second match.

No. 2 seed, Cristelle Grier of Northwestern won her only match today, a convincing win over Ohio State's Lindsey Adams, 6-3, 6-2.

Tomorrow features doubles quarter and semifinal rounds and a singles round of 16.
