WBB: Golden Gophers Play First Exhibition Game on Wednesday

GOPHERS HOST EXHIBITION GAMES
The Minnesota women's basketball team kicks off its 2004-05 season with a pair of exhibition contests. On Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., the Golden Gophers will face the Wisconsin Vikings, a traveling team consisting of former collegiate players. On Sunday, Nov., 7, NCAA Division II member North Dakota will visit Williams Arena for a 2 p.m. contest.
Golden Gopher Watch List - Nov. 2, 2004
The 2004-05 Golden Gophers - Head coach Pam Borton kicks off her third season with the Golden Gophers. Team captains are senior Janel McCarville, and juniors Shannon Schonrock and Shannon Bolden.
National Polls Coming Soon - Minnesota has been tabbed anywhere from No. 6 to No. 18 in various preseason national polls already released. The polls that carry the most weight, the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll will be released over the next week.
Subway Basketball Classic - Minnesota plays host to its 23rd early-season tournament on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 19-20. The Subway Basketball Classic will be sponsored by Subway for the third season. Joining Minnesota in the tournament field are Arkansas State, Valparaiso and Virginia Tech.
Banner Ceremony, Nov. 19 - The Golden Gophers will celebrate adding another banner to the rafters of Williams Arena, when they unveil the 2004 Final Four banner prior to their season-opening game on Nov. 19 versus Arkansas State. Tipoff is at 8 p.m. in the second game of the Subway Basketball Classic.
Shaq Sidelined - Minnesota's lone senior Janel McCarville is sidelined with a broken left hand. McCarville, a WBCA/Kodak All-American, is a leading candidate for several national player of the year awards. She is expected to be back in action for the Subway Basketball Classic.
