GOPHERS FACE CREIGHTON IN OMAHA
No. 18/17 Minnesota travels to Omaha, Neb., this weekend to face defending WNIT champion Creighton. Sunday's game tips off at 3 p.m. The Golden Gophers bring a 3-1 record into the contest. The Bluejays are 2-0 and play Wednesday at Houston, before hosting Minnesota.

SHAQ BACK AND MAKING HUGE IMPACT
Senior center Janel McCarville saw her first action of the 2004-05 season in the Subway Classic, after missing two games with a broken left hand. McCarville filled the stat sheet in 22 minutes in her season-opener versus Arkansas State. Facing double and triple teams the entire game, McCarville took only five shots but was very effective in finding open teammates dishing out eight assists. She also pulled down eight rebounds, blocked three shots and grabbed three steals.

McCarville posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Virginia Tech. The double-double was the 34th of her career. She also added three blocks, three steals and two assists and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

BROBACK FIRES HER WAY TO MVP HONORS
Junior forward Jamie Broback hit on her first four three-point field goals and finished in 23 points to led Minnesota to a 70-56 win over Virginia Tech and the Subway Basketball Classic title. Broback averaged 18 .0 points and 6.7 rebounds in the two games to garner tournament most valuable player honors. She was joined by Janel McCarville on the all-tournament team.

TEAM CHEMISTRY 101
The season is young and Minnesota still has plenty of work to do on its offensive efficiency, as an average of 20.0 turnovers per game would indicate. The Gophers, however, took positive steps in the flow of is offensive game plan, dishing out an impressive 25 assists on 28 field goals made in the win over Arkansas State. Four of the five starters tallied three or more assists with Janel McCarville leading the way with eight and followed by April Calhoun with five, Shannon Schonrock with four and Jamie Broback with three. The following night, the Gophers furthered their chemistry lesson by committing a season-low 13 turnovers against Virginia Tech.

McCARVILLE CONTINUES CLIMB UP CHARTS
Janel McCarville has played in only two games this season, but she is continuing her climb up the charts on two Golden Gopher career lists. McCarville scored 12 points in the win over Virginia Tech and now has 1,340 career points to move past Ellen Kramer (1987-91) and into ninth on the all-time Minnesota scoring list. McCarville added three blocks in the Virginia Tech game and now has 139 in her career, good for a tie for second with Kim Bell (1998-02).

GUIDING THE SHIP
Take one look at the Golden Gophers and it is obvious point guard Shannon Schonrock is at the helm on the court. Schonrock is the Gophers' second-leading scorer, averaging 12.5 points a game. She is shooting 47.4 percent (9-19) from three-point range. Last weekend in helping the Gophers to the Subway Classic title, Schonrock played 71 of the possible 80 minutes in the two games, averaged 13.5 points and had just three turnovers.
