MGYM: Alvarez, Mays and Kristjansson Named Tri-Captains

University of Minnesota men's gymnastics head coach Mike Burns announced today that seniors Guillermo Alvarez, Dyri Kristjansson and Clinton Mays have been named tri- captains of the Gopher men's gymnastics team for the 2005 season.
Alvarez has earned four All-America citations in his previous three seasons. The Denver, Colo., native earned three of those awards last season by finishing fifth at the 2004 NCAA Championships in the all-around with a score of 54.675. He also placed fourth on floor at the NCAA Championships with a 9.45 and took sixth on the pommel horse with a 9.425.
Kristjansson and Mays will also provide the Gophers with senior leadership. Kristjansson, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, and Mays, a Missouri City, Texas, native, have each lettered in their first three seasons with the Gopher gymnastics program
The Gophers will open the season at the Windy City Invite in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 8, 2005 at 7 p.m.
