Pole Vaulter Monica Stearns Fifth at Iowa State Classic

oneMinnesota senior Monica Stearns place fifth in the pole vault to lead the Golden Gopher women's track & field team in day one of the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Friday. Stearns cleared a height of 11 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

Freshman Sarah Nelson placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 19-5 1/4, the third-best mark in Gopher indoor track history.

The ISU Classic concludes on Saturday.
