No. 1 Gophers Tie, 1-1 Against Ohio State

After a scoreless first period, Minnesota scored a power-play goal at 10:07 of the second stanza. Danielle Ashley scored her second goal of the season on the slap shot from the point. Krissy Wendell and La Toya Clarke assisted on the play. The Gophers capitalized on their only shot on goal with the extra attacker. The Maroon and Gold had 17 shots on goal in the second period.
The Buckeyes best chance of the second came with three minutes remaining in the period when Jana Harrigan had a breakaway, but Gopher goalie Jody Horak made the save. The Gophers attempted 29 total shots in the second, while allowing only five shots, four of which were on goal.
The Buckeyes tied the game at 13:05 of the third period with a goal by Harrigan. The two teams remained at a 1-1 draw sending it to overtime. With 1:10 in left in overtime the Buckeyes were called with a checking penalty, giving Minnesota its third power-play opportunity of the game. During their power-play opportunity, Minnesota had three blocked shots and one on target, but could not muster a goal.
It was Minnesota's fifth overtime game of the season. The Maroon and Gold hold a 1-2-2 in the extra session. The Maroon and Gold outshot OSU 36-18 in the game. Buckeye goalie Melissa Glaser stopped Minnesota 35 of 36 shots on goal. Horak ended the game with 17 saves.
Natalie Darwitz returned to Minnesota's lineup after missing 10 games. She had three shots on goal and was on the ice for the Gophers' power-play goal.
With her assist, Wendell has continued her scoring streak to 18 straight games with a point. During that span, Wendell has scored 36 of her 50 points.
The Golden Gophers and the Buckeyes will play again, tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., at the OSU Ice Rink.
