Gopher Women's Track Team Competes At Duke Invitational

includiThe University of Minnesota women's track team competed in the first day of action at the Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C.

The Gophers had several top-10 finishes, including a first-place performance by junior sprinter Melissa Woltman in the 100 meters. Woltman won the event in a time of 12.52 seconds. Freshman Vanessa Nelson helped continue the team's success in the sprints by finishing fourth in the 200 meters in a time of 25.70. Juniors Melissa Steele and Liz Woolford placed sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 200 meters with times of 25.71 and 25.75 seconds. Freshman Maggie Jaunich would take fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a clocking of 16.03 seconds.

The Gophers also had a presence in the distance races as sophomore Jen Hess finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:02.40. Freshman Katrina Rundhaug and sophomore Harper McConnell would follow suit by placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 5000 meters in times of 17:23.53 and 17:27.41. In the 1500-meter run, freshman JoEllen Arons and senior Rachel Kuhn ran their way into the top 10. Arons finished sixth in a time of 4:47.07, while Kuhn was eighth with a time of 4:48.87.

The Gophers will be in action again tomorrow, April 3, at the Duke Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
