estimateThe Minnesota volleyball team finished up its 2004 spring schedule with a 2-1 victory over Nebraska by scores of 25-12, 21-25, 25-22 on Saturday, Apr. 26 at the Sports Pavilion in front of an estimated crowd of 1,500 fans.

Minnesota finished off four weeks of competition in the spring season with the home Nebraska match. The Golden Gophers split a pair of matches at the Colorado State Tournament on Mar. 27, went 1-1-2 at the UC Santa Barbara tournament on Apr. 10, lost a four-game match at Nebraska on Apr. 17 and won a best two-out-of-three match at home against the Huskers on Apr. 24.

"Beating Nebraska, even if it is only in a spring exhibition, is always a significant experience," said Minnesota Head Volleyball Coach Mike Hebert. "We will head into the off season with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.

"We will open our preseason camp in August knowing that we will be a very good defensive team. Our serving and passing will also be reliable. Our left side hitting should be good. The only question remains, will we be able to generate enough offense to compete at an elite level."

Minnesota will start the 2004 regular season in Fort Collins, Colo. at the NACWAA Tournament on Friday, Aug. 27 and 28. The Golden Gophers will be joined by two-time defending national champion USC, Georgia Tech and host Colorado State. Matchups have yet to be determined.
