The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastern Kodak Company announced today the 2004 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. Named to the team were Golden Gophers Lindsay Whalen and Janel McCarville, making Minnesota the only school with multiple selections.

The honor marked the second consecutive year Whalen has been named a Kodak All-American, while McCarville became a first-time selection to the squad. The two current players join former Gopher Carol Ann Shudlick as the only Minnesota players selected to the team.

This season, Whalen is averaging 20.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. She is the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,274 points, ranks second in assists with 571 and is third in steals at 234. Whalen was recently named an Associated Press second-team All-America tea. She is the first three-time All-American in school history.

McCarville enters Sunday's Final Four match-up with Connecticut as the team's second leading scorer at 16.1 points per game, while leading the Gophers in rebounding at 10.9 boards per contest. The junior center has a string of eight conscutive double-double performances, including a triple double in the Big Ten tournament against Ohio State. McCarville set her career high in rebounds during the NCAA tournament with a pair of 18-rebound games against Kansas State and Duke. In the first four games of the 2004 NCAA Tournament, McCarville has collected 68 rebounds, and needs just five rebounds against Connecticut to break the record for rebounds in an NCAA Tournament.

Selection committees in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions select 10 women's basketball players to be honored. The members of the 2004 Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team are as follows:
