Coleman to Play on Big Ten Foreign Tour Team

The future of the Big Ten will be on display overseas as seven of the 12 players have completed two or fewer seasons of college basketball. The League's last Foreign Tour Team in 2002 produced seven eventual All-Big Ten selections, including a two-time Second Team honoree in Michigan State's Chris Hill and three Third Team picks in Illinois' Roger Powell, Northwestern's Winston Blake and Ohio State's Velimir Radinovic. Since 1991, two of the Foreign Tour Team's leading scorers have developed into First Team All-Conference picks (Indiana's Greg Graham and Iowa's Andre Woolridge) while Purdue's Brad Miller, who led the 1996 team with 16.0 points per game, took part in last year's NBA All-Star game.
The 2004 Foreign Tour Team will include a pair of DeChellis' own players in Kevin Fellows and Marlon Smith. Smith was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team last season after sharing the Penn State scoring lead with 13.4 points per contest, which ranked second among all League freshmen. Fellows enters his senior season after seeing action in 68 career games.
In addition to Smith, the roster includes four other guards in Indiana's Marshall Strickland, Iowa's Adam Haluska, Purdue's Brandon McKnight and Wisconsin's Clayton Hanson. Strickland was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten and Academic All-Conference honoree last season after ranking second on the Hoosiers with 10.8 points per game. Haluska redshirted last year at Iowa after transferring from Iowa State, where he averaged 9.2 points per contest and earned All-Freshman Team accolades. McKnight started all 31 games at the point guard position last season and ranked third on the team with a career-best 9.0 points per outing. Wisconsin's Hanson was an effective weapon off the bench for the 2004 Big Ten Tournament Champions and garnered Academic All-Big Ten laurels for the second straight year.
The Foreign Tour Team includes four student-athletes who play the forward position in Illinois' Warren Carter, Michigan State's Delco Rowley, Minnesota's Dan Coleman and Northwestern's Davor Duvancic. In his first year in Champaign, Carter played in 17 games for the Big Ten Champion Fighting Illini and tallied a season-best nine points in the team's opening game. After redshirting his first season on campus, Rowley worked his way into the MSU starting lineup before suffering a knee injury that sidelined him for nine games. Coleman, a Minneapolis native, sat out last season after transferring from Boston College. Duvancic saw action in all 29 games last season with 13 starts and averaged 6.3 points per contest.
DeChellis will also have three centers to choose from in Fellows, Michigan's Amadou Ba and Ohio State's Matt Marinchick. Ba, a native of Africa who speaks five different languages including French, played in seven games last season. Marinchick enters his senior campaign as a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection after playing in 14 games with his first career start last season.
