Gopher Football Ranked #23 in ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll

haveThe University of Minnesota football team is ranked 23rd in the country in the ESPN/USA Today preseason coaches poll released today. It is the first time under Coach Glen Mason the Golden Gophers have been ranked in any preseason poll. The last time the Gophers were ranked in the preseason was 1969. Minnesota, under Coach Murray Warmath, was ranked 19th in the preseason Associated Press poll.

Minnesota shares the 23rd spot with Purdue. The Big Ten has the most teams ranked in the top 25 with six. The ACC and SEC have five ranked teams each. Michigan is ranked #7, Ohio State #9, Iowa #12 and Wisconsin #22.

Last season, Minnesota won 10 games for the first time since 1905 and finished the season ranked 17th in the ESPN/USA Today poll and 20th in the AP poll. Minnesota opens the regular season on Sept. 4 vs. Toledo at 8 p.m., on ESPN2.
