Golden Gophers Announce 2004-05 Women's Basketball Schedule

The 2004-05 Minnesota women's basketball schedule was released today, featuring a pair of games nationally televised on ESPN2. The Golden Gophers, coming off their first Final Four appearance, will play host to LSU on Dec. 14 and Purdue on Feb. 13 in nationally broadcast games.
Additional games will be selected for television broadcast by the Big Ten Conference in future weeks.
Following two home exhibition games, the Gophers will kick off the season versus UNLV at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Classic in Seattle on Nov. 14. Minnesota will once again host the Subway Basketball Classic, Nov. 19-20, to open the Gophers' home schedule. Among this year's Subway Classic entries is Valparaiso, a team that traveled to Williams Arena for the NCAA Tournament a year ago, and Virginia Tech, another NCAA Tournament entry.
Minnesota's schedule includes 10 teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament a year ago. In addition to Virginia Tech and Valparaiso, other teams that advanced to the Big Dance on the Gophers' schedule are Iowa, LSU, Michigan State, New Mexico, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
The Gophers open Big Ten action with two home games, on Dec. 30 versus Northwestern and on Jan. 2 against Indiana. The conference slate includes home-and-home contests with six teams and a single game with four schools. This season, Ohio State and Penn State will not visit Williams Arena and the Gophers will not travel to Illinois or Iowa.
The Big Ten Tournament is once again set for Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on March 3-7. Minnesota will play host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament on March 19 and 21.
