Roberts has spent the last five years as an assistant coach at North Idaho College. Roberts helped lead the Cardinals to the 2003 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship. He was a two-time All-American and four-year letterwinner at the University of Oregon, and was ranked as high as second in the nation before suffering a broken leg prior to the NCAA Championships during his senior season. In addition, Roberts was named the Most Valuable Wrestler for the Ducks in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
"Brandon and Kevin will bring a tremendous amount of strength to our program," head coach J Robinson said. "Brandon brings a great background as a competitor and a coach and will help us in our upper weights. Brandon has outstanding people skills, and will be an asset in our ability to recruit. Kevin will bring the same high intensity and work ethic that we've had in the past, and his attention to detail and ability to work with our younger athletes will give us a definite advantage in our strength and conditioning program."
Minnesota kicks off the 2004-05 season at the Bison Open on Nov. 13. The Golden Gophers open the dual meet season on Dec. 5 against two-time defending NCAA Champion Oklahoma State at the Sports Pavilion.
