Minnesota heads to Laramie, Wyo. to play in the Wyoming Tournament on Sept. 3 & 4. The Golden Gophers will start off the tournament against Texas- San Antonio on Friday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. (CT). Minnesota will also play Idaho State at 8 p.m. (CT) on Sept. 3. The Golden Gophers will finish up the tournament at Wyoming on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. (CT). It marks the first time since 2001 that the Golden Gophers have started out on the road for their first two tournaments of the season.

Minnesota finished in second place in the NACWAA Classic this past weekend going 1-1 with a four-game victory at No. 11 Colorado State and a five-game defeat at the hands of No. 1 USC. It marked the second time in as many trips to NACWAA Classic that the Golden Gophers finished second. On both occasions (2002 & 2004), Minnesota lost to the No. 1 team in the nation in the championship match. In 2002, the Golden Gophers lost to No. 1 (and then defending national champion) Stanford in four games in the finals. This year, Minnesota lost to No. 1 (two-time defending national champion) USC in five games. With the victory over the Golden Gophers, the Women of Troy extended their NCAA Division I winning streak to 49 matches. Minnesota became the only team during that string to hold a 2-1 lead on USC, and just the second to force USC to five games. The Golden Gophers also defeated Colorado State in the first match, becoming the first team to defeat the host in the first round since 2000. Ironically, it was Colorado State who defeated Florida that year.
