In 2003, the Golden Gopher volleyball team made their first Final Four in school history. Minnesota advanced as the No. 4 seed in its regional and the No. 13 seed overall. The Golden Gophers were the first No. 4 seed in NCAA Tournament history to advance to the Final Four, and the lowest overall tournament seed to do so since the NCAA started seeding the top 16 teams.
Minnesota will host the Diet Coke Classic this week. Its matchup against Kansas State is the Golden Gophers first match in the tournament. Minnesota will also play No. 4 Florida on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in a match that will broadcast by CSTV on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. The Golden Gophers will finish the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. against Northern Iowa.
The Diet Coke Classic will be the second tournament of the year to feature two of last year's Final Four participants in the same tournament. Minnesota was in the other when it faced No. 1 USC in the NACWAA Classic on Aug. 28.
