MTF: Buzard & Tilstra Improve NCAA Qualifying Marks

AnAaron Buzard and Andy Tilstra improved their NCAA provisional qualifying marks while competing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Buzard lowered his 400 meter time to 46.97 finishing in eighth place. Tilstra bettered his qualifying distance in the weight throw by more than a foot, marking a season's-best 65-4 3/4 while also taking eighth place.

The Golden Gophers distance medley relay team narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The team of Ryan Ford, Buzard, Hans Storvich, and Ben Hanson ran to a fourth place finish in time of 9:44.27, a mere half second off the qualifying standard.

Other notable individual performances included Erik Grumstrup's fourth place finish in the 3,000 meters in a personal-best time of 8:07.81. Bryant Howe placed fifth in the high jump clearing 7-0 1/4. Robb Merritt ran a season's-best 200 meter time of 21.56, tying him for eighth place. Antonio Vega placed tenth in the 5,000 meters recording a personal-best time of 14:23.79.

The Gophers return home this weekend to host the Snowshoe Open at 5 p.m. on Friday before heading to Purdue for the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 26-27.
