WTN: Golden Gophers Upend No. 45 Denver, 6-1

Junior captain Nischela Reddy got Minnesota off to a great start with her dominating 6-1, 6-2 victory over 98th-ranked Yannick Dullens at No. 1 singles. With the win, Reddy improved to 5-1 this spring and 3-1 vs. ranked opponents. She has now defeated the Nos. 26, 98, 120 ranked players this season.
The Maroon and Gold gained the 2-0 lead with Jane Anderson's 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Suzana Maksovic at No. 3, but the Pioneers struck back at No. 4 with Jenny Trettin downing Danielle Mousseau, 6-3, 6-3. Minnesota iced the match with wins at Nos. 2, 5 and 6, with Marina Bugaenco wrapping up the strong showing in singles with a 6-3, 6-7 (4), (10-6) victory over Marisa Mechem at No. 6. With the win, Bugaenco, snapped a nine- match losing streak, dating to Oct. 21. At No. 5 singles, sopohomore Lindsay Risebrough downed Rachel Sackmaster, 7-5, 7-5, in her first match of the spring season.
With the match in hand, UM added another team point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, while Reddy and Ida Malmberg gave up a 7-5 lead to lose 9-7 to 30th-ranked Dullens and Maksovic at No. 1.
The Golden Gophers wrap up play this weekend with a match against Cincinnati on Sunday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. Denver faces Cincinnati tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
