WHK: No. 1 Gophers Shut Out Minnesota State, 5-0

Allie Sanchez netted the eventual game-winning goal at 2:51 of the first period. Kelly Stephens started the play, passing it to Krissy Wendell. She set up Sanchez, who back-handed the goal for her second of the season.
Bobbi Ross added to the Gophers' lead when she scored her 12th goal of the season at 13:11 of the second period. On the power-play, Natalie Darwitz started the play, passing it to Lyndsay Wall. Wall rifled a slapshot. It hit Ross and trickled into the net. Minnesota entered the third period with a two-goal lead and was outshooting the Mavericks, 32-7.
Darwitz notched a goal of her own at 6:43 of the third period. Wendell passed the puck to Stephens, who passed it to Darwitz. She fired a shot, top-shelf, for her 32nd goal of the season. The Gophers added their second goal of the game at 15:20 of the third. Darwitz won the faceoff, while Wendell was there for the loose puck. She skated through two MSU players and scored her 36th- goal of the season, 12th on the power-play. The Gophers added their fifth and final goal of the game at 17:21. Anya Miller fired in a slapshot from the point with Wall and Erica McKenzie adding the assists.
Minnesota finished the game with 49 shots to MSU's 16. Jody Horak started in net for the Gophers, stopping all 16 shots. The Mavericks have been shut out in the last three games. MSU fell to Bemidji State last weekend, going scoreless.
The Gophers will conclude their home season with a 3:05 p.m. contest at Ridder Arena. Prior to the game, Minnesota will honor its five seniors, Jody Horak, Brenda Reinen, Kelly Stephens, Noelle Sutton and Stacy Troumbly.
With a win tomorrow at Ridder Arena, the Gophers can clinch the WCHA regular season championship.
