WTF: Gophers Take Eight Event Titles at Parents'Day Open

The Gophers swept the top four places in the 600 meter dash with each of the four Minnesota runners establishing a new personal best time. Melissa Steele took the 600 meter title in a winning time of 1:32.10. She was closely followed by Candace Borgen in second (1:32.38), Gabriele Anderson in third (1:33.87), and Gina Dare in fourth (1:34.95).
Minneosta also claimed the top four places in the 3000 meter run. Darja Vasiljeva won the event, clocking 10:15.53, while Paula Hoffert (10.23.29), Amy Lindner (10:28.64), and Jena Trask (10:40.89) followed in second through fourth respectively.
Sprinter Kadian Douglas took the 60 meter dash title, running the second fastest time in school history (7.51).
Fellow Gophers capturing meet crowns included Ladia Albertson-Junkans in the 800 meters (2:12.84), Emily Brown in the 1000 meters (2:55.98), Jen Hess in the mile (5:03.72), Sarah Nelson in the long jump (18-9), and Andrea Smith in the pole vault (12-6).
Those posting runner-up finishes included Carly Emil in the 1000 meters (2:56.82), Shari Schutz in the 60-meter hurdles (8.75), Christin Kingsley in the long jump (18-8 1/2), Anna Arciszewska in the triple jump (39-9 3/4), Vanessa Schwanke in the high jump (5-7), and the distance medley relay team of Katie Howery, Teresa Smock, Gabriele Anderson, and Zoe Nagel.
Minnesota will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. next weekend to compete in the Big Ten Indoor Championships beginning Saturday, Feb. 26.
