MGYM: Alvarez Finishes Second Overall in Winter Cup All-Around

ofUniversity of Minnesota senior gymnast Guillermo Alvarez took second overall in the all- around with a score of 53.115 at the 2005 Winter Cup, held in Las Vegas, Nev.

Alvarez won the preliminaries of the floor exercise with a score of 9.10 and finished second on vault with a mark of 9.566. He also finished among the top five on pommel horse, taking fourth with a score of 9.233. Alvarez advanced to the finals on the floor exercise, pommel horse and vault.

Sophomore Jake Lee and freshman Scott Garner also competed at the Winter Cup, as Lee placed 15th overall in the all-around, while Garner finished 33rd.

Former Gopher gymnast Clay Strother also competed in the all-around, placing seventh. Strother placed third on the floor (8.950) and pommel horse (9.250) to advance to the finals of those two events.
