BB: Minnesota Players Visit Gillette Children's Hospital

Healthcare.The University of Minnesota baseball coaches and players took time out from preparing for the upcoming Dairy Queen Baseball Classic to visit children at the Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.

Senior third baseman David Hrncirik (Madison, Wis.), senior pitcher Josh Krogman (St. Cloud, Minn.), junior outfielder Tony Leseman (St. Paul, Minn.), freshman pitcher Tom Buske (Apple Valley, Minn.), Assistant Head Coach Rob Fornasiere and "Goldy" all handed out posters and other assorted Golden Gopher items to the kids at the hospital.

The visit is part of Dairy Queen's sponsorship of the Mar. 4 to 6 Dairy Queen Baseball Classic, which will help raise funds - through the Children's Miracle Network - to support program's and services at Gillette.

Gillette, an independent, not-for-profit hospital and clinics, is internationally recognized for its work in the diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and young adults with chronic conditions, including cerebral palsy, brain and spinal cord injuries, complex orthopedic problems, arthritis, neuromuscular disorders, spina bifida and craniofacial anomalies. Since 1897, Gillette, located in St. Paul, has been at the forefront of medical technology, treatment, education and research for children with disabilities.

Children's Miracle Network (CMN) is an international organization that raises funds for and awareness of children's hospitals throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 1983, CMN has raised $2 billion to help hospitals help kids. In Minnesota CMN benefits children treated at Gillette.

Dairy Queen and the four teams in the tournament will also run an on-field youth clinic for youths ages 7 to 17 on Saturday, March 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic will be conducted by the coaches and players participating in the 2005 Dairy Queen Baseball Classic.
