nutritiRasa Troup has been named the women’s track and field team nutritionist, head coach Gary Wilson recently announced. Troup joined the staff last month after completing her Master’s degree in nutrition at Minnesota in January.

“As a former Gopher star runner, Rasa has been in and around our program for a number of years,” Wilson said. “We are very excited about adding her to our staff. She brings a tremendous amount of insight and passion and has an extremely positive attitude."

Troup, formerly Rasa Michniovaite, was a two-time letterwinner in both track and cross country and earned All-America honors in cross country in 1998. She was also the first Golden Gopher to win the Roy Griak Invitational and the program’s first NCAA regional champion. “I’m proud to be able to combine my competitive experiences with my professional knowledge to assist Minnesota athletics in a new capacity,” Troup said.

A native of Pabrade, Lithuania, Troup still holds national records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the indoor mile in her home country. She has qualified for a spot on the Lithuanian national team to compete in the steeplechase at this year’s World Championships, and has aspirations of qualifying for the Olympic team in 2008.

She initially graduated from the U of M in 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in physiology.

Troup and her husband Elliott reside in Minneapolis.
