Saunders: End of the Season Note
4/11/2005 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
We were a team that worked hard at whatever we did in the off season or during the season, so we knew what we were capable of. Of course, we wish that we could have ended the season a little differently, by winning in the NCAA tournament, but such is life, and that’s the way the ball bounces.
Losing in the NCAA tournament feels bad, but the thing that people forget is that only one team doesn't experience that losing feeling at the end of the game. It was different watching the rest of the games because it seemed like every game CBS would show the losing team and the sad looks on their faces. It felt different watching it this year because I knew exactly how it felt. But now we can look back and be proud of ourselves for proving so many people wrong, and proving our family, the Minnesota Basketball family to be right.
Now that the season is over Coach Monson and the coaching staff gave us a couple of weeks off. We now have been taking our free time to our advantage and getting caught up on schoolwork. Not a lot of people realize that with the Big Ten Tournament and the NCAA Tournament along with other away games this season we had to miss a good portion of class. In the end, we need to make up all of the work we missed and sometimes more. So everyone is really trying to concentrate on their studies.
As for me along with a ton of school I have been trying to go home a little bit more. I live 20 minutes away from campus. I have three little sisters and I don't get to see them as often as I'd like to, so a lot of my time has been going to visit them. Having some family dinners have been a good change of pace from the eating out scene all the time!
So as we conclude our time off everyone is really ready to get back working. We still fell we can accomplish much more. So to the entire Gopher fans who have stuck with us through the tough times, thank you. You are what helps make this program what it is and we will try and make everyone proud once again this off-season and next year. Summertime is just around the corner!
