WTN: #37 Indiana Defeats #75 Golden Gophers, 6-1

In the first outdoor match at the Baseline Tennis Center during Head Coach Tyler Thomson's four-year tenure, the University of Minnesota women's tennis team fell 6-1 to 37th-ranked Indiana today in Minneapolis, Minn. The Hoosiers swept the doubles matches and went 5-1 in singles play to hand the 75th-ranked Golden Gophers (5-12, 0-7 Big Ten) their eighth consecutive loss. The Maroon and Gold's lone victory on the day came with Nischela Reddy's victory at No. 1 singles.
Indiana (12-9, 6-1) opened the dual with a 3-0 showing in doubles action. Minnesota kept all three matches close, but failed to score a win. At No. 1, IU's Sarah Batty and Dominika Walterova upended Jane Anderson and Ida Malmberg, 8-5. The Hoosiers wrapped up the doubles sweep with two 8-6 wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
In singles play, Indiana gained the 3-0 lead with two quick victories at Nos. 3 and 6, but Reddy put Minnesota on the board with a dominating win at No. 1. Ranked 70th in the nation in singles, Reddy dispatched 101st-ranked Dora Vastag, 6-4, 6-1, to snap a two- match losing streak and improve to 10-7 this spring. Reddy is now 4-3 in Big Ten play and 6-4 vs. ranked opponents this season.
After Reddy's win, the Hoosiers closed out the dual with three more victories. Minnesota nearly tallied a win at No. 4 with Malmberg opening her match against Walterova with a 6 -2 first set, but falling 7-6 (4) and (10-6) to see her losing streak reach eight matches.
The Golden Gophers will look to tally their first win of the Big Ten season on Sunday as they host Penn State at 10:30 a.m. The match is Minnesota's final home competition of the season.
