VB: Minnesota Volleyball Announces 2005 Schedule

Minnesota will play its Alumni Match on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. to start off the year.
The Golden Gophers will open the regular-season when they host the Diet Coke Classic on Sept. 2-3. Minnesota will host a field that consists of Central Florida, North Dakota State and Xavier.
Following the Diet Coke Classic, Minnesota will host a match on Monday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. against 2004 NCAA Regional Finalist Nebraska at the Sports Pavilion.
Minnesota will then head to Kansas State for a tournament. The Golden Gophers will be part of a field that features, Florida State, Houston and host Kansas State. Minnesota will then compete in the Border Battle in Rochester, Minn. against Northern Iowa on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
The Golden Gophers will wrap up their non-conference schedule in Fort Worth, Texas at a tournament hosted by TCU. Minnesota will join a field that consists of Campbell, Maine and host TCU.
Minnesota will open the Big Ten season at Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 23. The Golden Gophers will also travel to Northwestern on Saturday, Sept. 24 on that opening roadtrip.
The Golden Gophers will play their first home Big Ten match against Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 30, followed by a match at home against Michigan on Oct. 1.
Minnesota will host Ohio State in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Regional Final on Friday, Oct. 21. The following night, the Golden Gophers will then host back-to-back Big Ten champion Penn State on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Sports Pavilion.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, Minnesota will play Indiana at Williams Arena. It will be only the second time the Golden Gophers have played in Williams Arena since 1994. Last year, Minnesota drew 10,927 fans for its match in Williams Arena.
The Golden Gophers will also host Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Minnesota travels to Penn State on Friday, Nov. 18 and to Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Minnesota will finish its home Big Ten season against Illinois on Friday, Nov. 25 and have “Senior Night” on Saturday, Nov. 26 against Purdue.
Minnesota returns six letterwinners from last year’s National Runner-Up team that finished 33-5 overall and 17-3 in Big Ten play. Highlighting that group is a pair of First-Team All- Americans in libero Paula Gentil (Forteleaza Ceara’, Brazil) and setter Kelly Bowman (Maple Grove, Minn.)
