GEN: Minnesota Gains 101 Spring Big Ten All-Academic Accolades

Minnesota had a total of 205 student-athletes named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team this year. That total was the second-highest Minnesota has had in an academic year.
Women’s Hockey had 11 members of its team named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team, including 2005 Patty Kazmaier National Player of the Year award winner Krissy Wendell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Men’s Hockey had six athletes named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team, including senior captain Judd Stephens (Wayzata, Minn.).
Men’s Track and Field had 16 athletes named to the Big Ten All-Academic Team, while Women’s Track and Field had 20. Highlighting that list is 2005 Big Ten Outdoor Men’s High Jump champion John Albert (Bloomington, Minn.), and 2005 NCAA Qualifier, and Big Ten Outdoor Women’s Shot Put and Discus Big Ten Champion Liz Podominick (Lakeville, Minn.).
Baseball had 12 players named to the Big Ten All-Academic team, including First Team All-Conference third baseman David Hrncirik (Madison, Wis.). Softball had seven players named to the team, including First Team All-Big Ten catcher Megan Higginbotham (Tallahassee, Fla.).
Women’s golf also placed seven of its 11 players on the Big Ten All-Academic team. Rowing also placed 15 members on the Big Ten All-Academic team, including All-Region performers Cheryl Wick (Rochester, Minn.) and Elizabeth Ratterman (Dubuque, Iowa).
Men’s tennis placed NCAA Qualifier and First Team Big Ten honoree Avery Ticer (Amarillo, Texas) on the team. Women’s tennis also placed three players on the Big Ten All-Academic team, including All-Big Ten honoree Nischela Reddy (Hyderabad, India).
