The Golden Gopher soccer team (3-2-2) was defeated in overtime, 3-2, at Dartmouth on Friday afternoon in Hanover, N.H. Minnesota rallied twice from one-goal deficits in the second half, but the Big Green snapped the Golden Gophers’ five-game unbeaten streak with a goal late in the first overtime.
“We can’t give up three goals and expect to beat a team like Dartmouth,” head coach Mikki Denney Wright said. “We need to come back with a better effort on Sunday. The Big Ten schedule is just around the corner and we need to correct the mistakes we made today.”
After Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead in the second half, Minnesota answered on senior Becky Dellaria’s second goal of the season. Dellaria scored off of freshman Clare Grimwood’s corner kick.
The Big Green regained the lead, 2-1, but Minnesota answered again on freshman Marti Klinsing’s first career goal. Fellow rookie Lindsey Schwartz collected the assist to increase her team-leading point total to 10 points. The 2-2 lasted until the first overtime as Dartmouth earned the game-winner. Minnesota fell to 0-4-5 in its last nine overtime contests.
Minnesota returns to action on Sunday morning when it faces Villanova. The match begins at 11 a.m.
