WTN: Ida Malmberg Advances to Finals of 2005 Bronco Invitational

Malmberg, a junior, prevailed in two tight contests to move to the title match of Flight A Singles draw. Malmberg defeated Carrie Jeanmarie of Western Michigan, 6-3, 4-6, (10-8), in the quarterfinals and the Broncos' Priyanka Parekh, 7-5, 7-6, in the semifinals. Malmberg will take on Alba Berdala of Indiana in tomorrow's championship match.
Also in Flight A, freshman Mariana Spilca went 0-2 after a winning debut as a Golden Gopher. Spilca fell to Berdala, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals before losing to Iris Jaklin of Illinois-Chicago, 6-2, 5-7, (11-9), in consolation play.
In the consolation bracket of Flight B Singles, Minnesota went 1-3 with junior Shelby Rohrer picking up her first collegiate win - a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sarah West of Ball State.
In the lone doubles match of the day, Minnesota's duo of Malmberg and senior captain Nischela Reddy defeated Indiana's Sigrid Fischer and Cecile Perton 8-1.
