“We enjoyed three awesome years with Krissy and we will miss her,” head coach Laura Halldorson said. “Since we knew that she had planned for this and had already graduated, we are not surprised by her decision. It’s exciting to know that Krissy Wendell will still be promoting the growth of women’s hockey, especially locally here in Minnesota. She is a first class person and we wish her the best.”
A three-time All-American, Wendell was a three-time Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist before winning the award in 2005. The Brooklyn Park, Minn., native is the first person from Minnesota and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association to win the award. As a sophomore, Wendell led the Gophers at the 2004 NCAA Championships, scoring eight points in the tournament to earn the Most Outstanding Player award. She was also selected to the 2005 NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2005, helping the Gophers win their second straight national championship.
A two-time recipient of the WCHA Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005, Wendell was named to the 2004 and 2005 WCHA All-Tournament Team after helping the Gophers win two regular season and tournament titles. In her final campaign, Wendell netted 43 goals and 61 assists for 104 points, ranking second on the team. Wendell finished her Golden Gopher career with 237 points in just 101 games. She ranks second in school history in career points (237), goals (106) and assists (131).
