Gopher Women's Hockey Opens WCHA Season Against Minnesota State

• Plymouth Community Night, Oct. 13 - Friday’s game against Minnesota will feature Gopher forward Tiffany Johnson and the Plymouth Community. Friday’s admission for Plymouth, Minn., natives is $4.

GOPHERS OPEN WCHA SEASON WITH MSU
The University of Minnesota opens the WCHA season with a home series against Minnesota State University, Mankato this weekend. Friday’s game is scheduled for a 6:07 p.m. start, while Saturday’s contest is a 3:07 p.m. tilt.
FOLLOWING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
The Gophers will have an audio webcast available for both games this weekend. Audio and live stats will be available for all home games this season on www.gophersports.com.
ON THE DOCKET
The Gophers will hit the road for the next two weekends as they face No. 1 Wisconsin, Oct. 21-22 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. Minnesota’s next road test will be the following week as it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State, Oct. 27-28. The Maroon and Gold return home Nov. 3-4 and face Minnesota-Duluth.
THIS TIME LAST YEAR
After going 1-1 in the 2005 Easton Shootout, the Gophers opened the WCHA season with a two-game sweep over the Bemidji State Beavers in Bemidji, Minn. The Gophers won the first game, 2-0, while winning the second by a score of 3-2. Minnesota was ranked fourth in both polls.
LEADING THE PACK
Erica McKenzie and Gigi Marvin have picked up where they left off a year ago, leading the Gopher scoring drive. McKenzie has netted two goals and two assists for four points, while Marvin has a goal and three assists.
In all, the Gophers have 11 players scoring a point in the opening weekend. Kelli Blankenship, Andrea Nichols, Whitney Graft and Melanie Gagnon have three, while Anya Miller, Jenelle Philipczyk and Becky Wacker have two points. Brittany Francis and Dagney Willey each got on the board with one point.
GOPHER RECORD AT HOME
In the past four years, the Gophers have recorded a home record of 55-11-2 and a winning percentage of 82 percent. In fact, since the program started, Minnesota holds a 124-21-10 mark on their home ice.
