The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that freshman forward Kelli Blankenship (Lusby, Md.) has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against Ohio State last weekend. It is the first career honor for Blankenship and the first weekly honor for the Golden Gophers this season.

Blankenship scored two goals on just two shots in last Friday's 4-1 win over the Buckeyes. Blankenship started the Gopher scoring drive to give the Maroon and Gold a 1-0 lead after the first period. She followed with one of the Gophers' three power-play goals in the second period for the two-goal performance and was later named the No. 1 star of the game. With her two goals, Blankenship is tied for the team lead of five. She tied her career-high, two-goal performance, which was earlier set this year against New Hampshire, Oct. 7.

Blankenship and the rest of the Golden Gophers take on WCHA rival Minnesota Duluth, Friday and Saturday night. Both games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Ridder Arena.
