University of Minnesota women’s hockey head coach Laura Halldorson has announced that Terra Rasmussen (Coon Rapids, Minn.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Golden Gopher women’s hockey team in the 2007-08 season.
Rasmussen, a 5-foot 7-inch forward, led Coon Rapids High School to a Class 2A state tournament runner-up in 2006 and was named to the all-tournament team. In her junior season, Rasmussen netted 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points and was an all-state honorable mention. An all-conference selection her freshman, sophomore and junior years, Rasmussen was also the team’s most valuable player and was named the team’s rookie of the year in her freshman campaign. A standout soccer player, Rasmussen was the team’s MVP as well as an all-conference selection. Rasmussen begins her senior hockey season tomorrow night, competing against Mahtomedi.
Rasmussen follows in her families’ tradition at the University of Minnesota and in Gopher athletics. Terra is the daughter of Randy and Dana Rasmussen. Her father, Randy, was a captain of the 1983 Gopher football team and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1984 and later was a member of the Minnesota Vikings in 1988. Her grandfather, Robert Rasmussen also played for the Gopher football team and was a three-year letterwinner from 1955-57. Her mother, Dana, graduated from the Carlson School of Management and her sister, Teena, is a sophomore at the U of M.
“Terra represents the true meaning of the term ‘student-athlete’, as she has been extremely successful in the classroom, in the hockey rink, and on the soccer field,” Halldorson said. “She is a physically strong forward who is a great skater, and she does the little things well. She will be carrying on the Gopher tradition in her family, and we're excited to add her to our program.”
Rassmussen joins Mahtomedi High School forward Laura May (Dellwood, Minn.), Jen Schoullis (Girard, Pa.) and Emily West (Colorado Springs, Colo.) during the early signing period.
