Gophers Well Represented at the 2006 USA Hockey Holiday Camp

The University of Minnesota women’s hockey team will be well represented at the 2006 USA Hockey Holiday Camp, Dec. 26-Jan. 2 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Nine of 42 selected players have ties to the Golden Gopher women’s hockey program. Competing at the camp will be current Gophers Kelli Blankenship (Lusby, Md.), Rachael Drazan (Orono, Minn.), Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.), Anya Miller (Elk River, Minn.) and Andrea Nichols (Mountain Iron, Minn.) along with former Gophers Winny Brodt (Roseville, Minn.), Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.) and Krissy Wendell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.). Emily West (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the team in 2007-08, has also been selected to participate. Erica McKenzie (Hastings, Minn.) was invited to the camp, but due to a knee injury, will not attend.
With a nine-member coaching staff on hand, the athletes will be split into two teams for daily practices, strength training and scrimmages. The strength and training portion of the camp will take place at the Olympic Training Center, while all practices and games will be held in either the USA Rink or 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center.
