Sophomore Krista Chin has transferred from Arizona to the University of Minnesota to play volleyball for the Golden Gophers according to an announcement made by Minnesota Head Volleyball Coach Mike Hebert.

Chin is a 5-7 sophomore libero/defensive specialist from Wheeling, Ill. As a freshman in 2004 she averaged 0.90 dpg for Arizona in 15 matches and 29 games. Chin led the team once in digs as a freshman when she tallied nine against San Diego on Sept. 4, 2004. She also tallied four digs and one assists against Hawai’i on Sept. 5.

Chin becomes the second player from Arizona to transfer to Minnesota in as many seasons. She joins former Wildcat teammate Meghan Cumpston (Red Bluff, Calif.) who transferred to Minnesota last year, and was second on the team in kills per game at 3.02 kpg.

In high school, Chin was named First-Team All-State by the Chicago Sun Times as a senior. She was also named to the All-Area Team by the Daily Herald and the Pioneer Press as a sophomore, junior and senior. Chin left Wheeling High School with school records in games played, games started, career assists and career digs.

Chin also graduated first in her high school class with highest honors. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society and was a U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete.

She also played for the Sports Performance Club Volleyball program. Chin was a 16 & Under All-American for Sports Performance. She also helped lead her team to AAU National Championships in 2001 and 2004. Chin’s teams were also Junior Olympic National Champions in 2000, 2003 and 2004.

“Krista comes from a great volleyball family,” said Minnesota Head Coach Mike Hebert. “Her parents both played and her dad still coaches in the Chicago area. She will give us significant depth as a defender.”
