McKenzie and Marvin Earn Second Straight WCHA Weekly Honors

McKenzie, from Hastings, Minn., garners honors for the second straight week after she led the Gophers in scoring over the weekend with three goals and three assists for six points in their sweep of North Dakota. McKenzie scored a goal and assisted on the game-winning goal in the Gophers’ 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Her goal in Saturday’s victory came on a power-play attempt, her seventh of the season. She followed with a four-point performance on Sunday, scoring two goals and two assists. McKenzie scored the game- winning goal, her eighth of the season, a WCHA high. Both of McKenzie’s assists came on power-play attempts. She also had 10 shots in Saturday’s game, a career high. She finished the weekend with a +3 mark. With her six-point performance, McKenzie leads the WCHA in points (49), goal scoring (26) and game-winning goals (8). In the past two series, McKenzie has gone on a 13-point tear, scoring seven points against SCSU and six this past weekend against UND.
Marvin, a native of Warroad, Minn., scored two goals and three assists for five points in the Gophers’ sweep over North Dakota. Marvin scored the Gophers’ gamewinner in the 4-0 win on Saturday and added a power-play assist for a two-point game. She followed with a goal and two assists Sunday afternoon. Marvin’s goal came on the power-play, while she was credited with the first assist on the game-winning goal. She finished the weekend with a +3 rating. Her 39 points rank her fifth in the conference in points scored and leads the rookie class in scoring.
The No. 4 Golden Gophers will face Minnesota State in the first round of the WCHA Championships, March 3-5. Friday's game is set for 6 p.m. in Ridder Arena, while Saturday's and Sunday's contest is set for 4 p.m. The series is the winner of two games. If the Gophers win, Minnesota will advance to the WCHA Championships, March 11-12 also at Ridder Arena.
