The University of Minnesota women’s basketball team was represented by three players Jamie Broback, Shannon Bolden, Shannon Schonrock who were named to Big Ten Conference honor squads. Broback was voted to the All-Big Ten Second Team by both the Conference coaches and media. Bolden was named to the All-Defensive Team, while Schonrock was the Minnesota recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.

Broback, a 6-3 forward from Apple Valley, Minn., received the second postseason honor of her career. A year ago, Broback earned honorable mention honors. In 2005-06, Broback leads the Gophers in scoring (14.6 points per game) and rebounding (6.8 rebounds per game).

Bolden is a member of the Conference coaches’ inaugural All-Defensive Team. The 5-11 small forward from Marshall, Minn., is a three-year starter for the Golden Gophers and often draws the assignment of defending the opponent’s top perimeter player.

Schonrock, a 5-6 guard from Blue Earth, Minn., was the Minnesota recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. These 11 student-athletes are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.

Ohio State’s Jessica Davenport was voted as the Big Ten Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Davenport was joined by Michigan State’s Liz Shimek, Purdue’s Katie Gearlds, Iowa’s Crystal Smith and Indiana’s Cyndi Valentin on the All-Big Ten First Team. Ohio State’s Jim Foster also repeated as the Big Ten Coach of the Year. Iowa’s Megan Skouby was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Purdue’s Cherelle George was named the Sixth Player of the Year. Ohio State’s Kim Wilburn was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year.
