Gigi Marvin Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that University of Minnesota women's hockey player Gigi Marvin has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against Minnesota State University, Mankato last weekend. It is Marvin's third rookie of the week honor and the Gophers' 10 player of the week this season.

Marvin, a freshman forward from Warroad, Minn., scored two goals and assisted on another to help the Gophers to a 4-3 overtime win against Minnesota State Saturday at Mariucci Arena. With the Gophers down 1-0, Marvin scored the game-tying goal after the two teams went scoreless for 26 minutes when she scored at 4:56 of the third period. Marvin then scored her second of the game at 6:16 to give the Gophers the 2-1 lead. She followed by setting up teammate Jenelle Philipczyk for the Gophers’ third goal of the period.

No.4/5 Minnesota will head to Madison, Wis., to face No. 2 Wisconsin, Feb. 10-11. Both games are scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. start at the Kohl Center.
