Minnesota will enter the Big Dance with a record of 19-9 overall and as one of four Big Ten teams likely to be selected to the field of 64 teams. Ohio State earned an automatic bid by winning the Big Ten Tournament last weekend, while Purdue and Michigan State are also solid candidates for at-large berths. Iowa and Indiana are both considered bubble teams in the selection process.
Unlike the past two seasons, Minnesota will have to take to the road for the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Sites and schools hosting first and second rounds this season are Chicago (DePaul); Denver (Colorado); Nashville (Vanderbilt); Tucson, Ariz. (Arizona); Norfolk, Va. (Old Dominion); Trenton, N.J. (Rider/Metro Atlantic); West Lafayette, Ind. (Purdue) and University Park, Pa. (Penn State). The first round games will be played on either Saturday, March 18, or Sunday, March 19.
Minnesota has already been selected to host the 2007 First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Williams Arena.
