Gopher Women's Gymnastics Team Wins Regular Season Finale

The meet marked the final home competition for the senior class of 2006, consisting of Laura Johnson, Maria Opsahl, and Kelly Stout.
The Gophers started the competition the vault, and earned a mark of 48.350. Utah State’s was 48.075. Laura Johnson won her 25th event title of the season with a first-place vault finish, earning a score of 9.800. Carmelina Carbajal was second on the vault, earning a mark of 9.750.
Minnesota moved to the uneven bars, where the team earned its highest score of the evening, a 49.050. Stephanie Funk won her first event title of the year with a personal-best score of 9.875 to take first place. Angela Walker came in second on the bars, earning a career- high mark of 9.850. Jade Beattie also earned a personal-best score on the unevens, with a 9.800 to tie for fourth place. The Aggies compiled a 48.250 on the bars.
In the third rotation, the Gophers performed on the balance beam, and tallied a score of 48.625. Ashley Mutchler was the event winner, with a 9.775. Stephanie Funk earned her highest beam score this year with a 9.725 to place second. Ashley Stanton tied with Funk for second place, also earning a 9.725. Gophers Carmelina Carbajal and Angela Walker tied for fourth place with marks of 9.700. Utah State earned a 46.825 on the beam.
Finally, Minnesota competed in the floor exercise, and earned a score of 48.825, led by Carmelina Carabajal, who was the event champion with a 9.800. Ashley Stanton was second on the floor with a 9.775. Three Gopher gymnasts tied for third place with marks of 9.750, Amanda Miles, Ashley Mutchler, and Laura Johnson. The scores earned by Mutchler and Miles tied their season-best marks.
Laura Johnson won her sixth all around title this season with a 38.825. Ashley Mutchler was second in the all around, earning a score of 38.575.
