Minnesota Finishes Third at Great Lakes Invitational

The Minnesota volleyball team finished third out of 24 teams at the Great Lakes Invitational Spring Tournament on Saturday, Apr. 22. Minnesota went 2-0 in its pool play to advance to the gold bracket, which included all the teams with the best records from their pools. The Golden Gophers defeated UW-Milwaukee and Dayton 2-0 to win their pool.

In the next round, Minnesota defeated 2005 NCAA Regional participant Ohio University 2-0 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

The Golden Gophers lost 2-0 to Texas, who eventually tied for the tournament title with LSU, in the semifinal round.

Minnesota was the highest finisher out of seven teams from the Big Ten that participated in the spring tournament. The Golden Gophers were joined by Iowa, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.

Minnesota will finish its spring action at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday, Apr. 29. The Golden Gophers will face Kansas State at 10 a.m. in a five-game match, and then the two teams will face each other again at 2:30 p.m. in a three-game match. Stay tuned to gophersports.com for further details.
