Minnesota Splits Two Spring Matches With Kansas State

In the morning match, Minnesota rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games 23-30, 30-20, 27-30, 30-27 and 21-19. The Golden Gophers had match point at 14-10 in the fifth game, but Kansas State fought back to tie it at 14.
Kyla Roehrig (Papillion, Neb.) delivered a kill to give the Golden Gophers match point again at 15-14. However, the Wildcats tied it at 15. Minnesota had match point at 16-15, but Kansas State tied it again at 16. Kelly Bowman (Maple Grove, Minn.) gave the Golden Gophers another match point, but the Wildcats tied it at 17 and scored the next point to move within point of winning the match at 18- 17.
Minnesota fought off that match point and another one at 19-18 to tie the game at 19. Meredith Nelson (St. Croix Falls, Wis.) delivered a kill to put the Golden Gophers ahead 20-19. Meghan Cumpston (Red Bluff, Calif.) followed with another kill to give Minnesota the game at 21-19 and the match in five games.
Unofficially, Cumpston had 22 kills for Minnesota in the first match of the day. Roehrig also delivered 20 kills in the match for the Golden Gophers. Bowman and Nelson finished with 11 and 10 kills respectively.
Bowman, Kelly Fallon (Burlington, Wis.) and Rachel Hartmann (St. Charles, Ill.) also had two service aces apiece in the match.
Minnesota dropped the second match of the day in three games 30-23, 16-30, 30-24 to Kansas State. In that match, the Golden Gophers unofficially had 10 kills from Cumpston and nine from Bowman.
Hartmann and Malama Peniata (Plymouth, Minn.) also had three and two service aces respectively in the match for the Golden Gophers.
The two matches finished out Minnesota’s four-week spring schedule.
