Golden Gophers Announce 2006 Schedule

The Golden Gophers will open fall camp with their annual Maroon and Gold Game at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 6 p.m. Minnesota will then play its lone exhibition game at Creighton on Aug. 19. The BlueJays reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
Minnesota will open the 2006 season with its first four games at home. The Golden Gophers will face Drake on Aug. 25 and North Dakota State on Aug. 27. Minnesota will also host Iowa State and Missouri, Sept. 1-3. The Cyclones reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history last year.
Minnesota will then compete in the Brown University Invitational in Providence, R.I., Sept. 8-10. The Golden Gophers will face Army and Brown. Minnesota will host the annual Gopher Invitational at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium, Sept. 15-17. The Golden Gophers will meet NCAA Tournament participant Dartmouth, as well as Northern Colorado.
The Big Ten season kicks off at home as Minnesota hosts Northwestern on Sept. 29 and Wisconsin on Oct. 1. The Golden Gophers will also host Michigan and Michigan State, Oct. 20-22.
Minnesota's road schedule will include Illinois and Iowa on Oct. 6-8 and Penn State on Oct. 13. In addition to a non-conference game at South Dakota State on Oct. 15, the Golden Gophers will conclude the regular season at Ohio State on Oct. 27.
Minnesota enters the 2006 season following its most successful season in five years. The Golden Gophers will welcome one of the nation's top recruiting classes, which features a Big Ten-best five top-100 national recruits.
