The Minnesota baseball team (31-24) had three players named All-Big Ten according to an announcement made by the conference office on Tuesday, May 23. Junior starting pitcher Cole DeVries (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named Second-Team All-Big Ten, while senior first baseman Andy Hunter (West St. Paul, Minn.) and freshman outfielder Matt Nohelty (Rothschild, Wis.) were received third-team honors.

DeVries enters the Big Ten Tournament with a 6-3 record with a 2.65 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 85.0 innings of work. He is currently fifth in the Big Ten in ERA, fourth in opponent batting average, fifth in innings pitched, sixth in strikeouts and is tied for sixth in wins. DeVries second-team honors continues a streak of 10 straight seasons that the Golden Gophers have had a pitcher named All-Big Ten Second-Team or better.

In Big Ten play, DeVries is 4-2 with a 2.48 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 54.1 innings. In 13 starts, DeVries pitched six or more innings 10 times. In nine of those 10 starts, he has given up two or less earned runs. The Second-Team All-Big Ten honors are the first all-conference honors for DeVries in his career.

Hunter enters the Big Ten Tournament batting .339 with five home runs, 37 RBI, 37 runs and has a .436 on-base percentage. He is sixth in the Big Ten in walks and 10th in the league in on-base percentage. With the third-team honors, Hunter has now been named All-Big Ten in all four years in his career. He is the first four-time All-Big Ten honoree for Minnesota since Sam Steidl did it in 2001-04.

In Big Ten play, Hunter batted .341 with 22 runs, three home runs, 21 RBI and .444 on-base percentage. This year Hunter broke Robb Quinlan's school record for most Big Ten RBI and finished with 109 in Big Ten play in his career, despite missing the final conference series of the year. He is also second on the Minnesota career list in RBI (194), fourth in career doubles (60), fourth in total bases (410) and seventh in hits (261).

Nohelty enters the Big Ten Tournament leading Minnesota in batting average at .364 and in stolen bases at 18. If he finishes with the team lead in batting average, he would be the first freshman to do so since Steidl in 2001. Nohelty would also be the first freshman to lead Minnesota in stolen bases since Scott Howard did so in 1999.

In Big Ten play, Nohelty led the team with a .389 batting average and had 11 stolen bases. He finished third in conference play in batting average and was tied for sixth in stolen bases. Nohelty is the first freshman to lead the team in conference batting average since Howard did so in 1999. Nohelty is also the freshman to be named All-Big Ten for Minnesota since Mike Mee in 2004, and the first freshman outfielder to make All-Big Ten since Steidl in 2001.

Fourth-seeded Minnesota will start play in the Big Ten Tournament when it takes on fifth-seeded Illinois on Wednesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. (CT). The other game of the day will feature third-seeded Ohio State against sixth-seeded Purdue at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The two losers of those games will play on Thursday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. (CT). The highest seeded winner of the first two games will play second-seeded Northwestern on May 25 at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The lowest seeded winner will play top-seed Michigan on May 25 at 6:00 p.m. (CT).
