The University of Minnesota women’s tennis program held its annual awards banquet at Vescio’s on Saturday afternoon with Nischela Reddy (Hyderabad, India) named the team’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season. In addition to the awards, Ida Malmberg (Kristianstad, Sweden) and Lindsay Risebrough (Edina, Minn.) were named team co-captains for the 2006-07 season.

A senior captain this past season, Reddy finished the 2005-06 season with a 19-14 overall record, a 14-9 mark in dual matches and a 7-3 Big Ten record. Reddy was clearly Minnesota's top player this season, playing all but one of her 23 dual matches at the No. 1 singles position. She went 3-3 vs. ranked opponents this season with wins over then-Nos. 56, 68 and 97. In doubles matches, Reddy went 22-12 overall, 16-7 in dual matches and 5-5 in the Big Ten. She was also the recipient of the team’s MacGyver Award. Below is a look at Reddy’s rankings on Minnesota’s career wins lists.

Malmberg and Danielle Mousseau (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) shared the team’s Most Improved Player award. Malmberg posted a 10-13 singles dual record and a 4-6 mark in the Big Ten, while Mousseau went 9-14 in duals and 2-8 in conference play. Rounding out the awards was Shelby Rohrer (Minnetrista, Minn.) with the Most Enthusiastic Player award.
