Golden Gophers Complete 3rd Annual Soccer Outreach

The University of Minnesota soccer program recently completed its 3rd Annual Gopher Soccer Outreach. In an effort to connect to the soccer community throughout Minnesota, the Golden Gophers offered free coaching and player clinics in a number of communities and made presentations at soccer club board meetings across the state over the course of the spring and summer months.
This year, the Minnesota coaching staff and players conducted 12 coaching clinics and eight player clinics, in addition to presenting at eight club board meetings. In their largest outreach ever, the Gophers visited 20 different soccer club organizations and worked with over 1,200 players and over 1,500 coaches across the state.
The Golden Gopher coaching staff also continues to be involved in the Minnesota Olympic Development Program, and Head Coach Mikki Denney Wright and Assistant Coach Kyle Singer will be on the Region II ODP staff this summer.For the third straight year, Denney Wright and her staff will also present at the 16th Annual Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association Soccer Coaches Clinic to be held August 11, 2006, at Wayzata High School. “One of the goals of our coaching staff is to be an engaged, positive member of the Minnesota soccer community,” Denney Wright said. “We have made a tremendous effort to reach out to the soccer community in many ways. There is a wonderful soccer community in Minnesota and we know they are an important part of the success of our program. Our coaching staff and players are grateful to all of the clubs and organizations who welcomed our program and we are looking forward to seeing them out at our games this fall.”
