Vincent Grier Signs with the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat announced Monday that they have signed former Minnesota guard Vincent Grier. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Grier played two seasons at the University of Minnesota after transferring from Dixie State Junior College and UNC-Charlotte. While at Minnesota, Grier appeared in 57 games and averaged 16.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.12 steals. He was named to the 2006 Senior All-America Second Team from the Bayer Advantage Senior Class Award, the 2006 NABC All-District Second Team and the 2006 All-Big Ten Third Team. As a senior, he appeared in 25 games and averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 2.32 steals while leading the Big Ten in steals per game, finishing eighth in the Big Ten for scoring average per game and 10th in rebounding average per game.

Grier's 16.9 points per game average over his two seasons is 10th-best on the Gopher career scoring average chart and he was named first team All-Big Ten in 2005 as a junior. Grier missed five games last season with a broken left hand.

Grier started for the Heat last night in the first summer league game vs. the Charlotte Bobcats. Grier finished with four points, was 1-of-2 from the field. 2-of-4 from the line with five rebounds and two assists in just over 22 minutes. In that same game, Grier faced former teammate Maurice Hargrow and former Gopher Kevin Burleson. Burleson finished with nine points and two assists in 16 minutes and Hargrow had one point and three rebounds in nine minutes for the Bobcats.
