Gopher Basketball Announces 2006-07 Non-Conference Schedule

The University of Minnesota basketball program announced the non-conference portion of its 2006-07 schedule today. The Gophers will face a challenging slate of games opening with a home date with North Dakota State on Nov. 13. Highlighting the non-conference schedule are home dates with Iowa State on Nov. 21, Clemson on Nov. 29, as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, and Arizona State on Dec. 2.
The Gophers travel to Orlando, Fla., over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend for the inaugural ESPNU Classic. The inaugural tournament field will feature a number of top quality teams: Arkansas, Marist, Minnesota, Montana, Southern Illinois, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Western Michigan. The Gophers will face Marist in the opening round on Thursday, Nov. 23. The semifinals are Friday, Nov. 24 with the Championship Game on Sunday, Nov. 26.
Minnesota then returns home to face Clemson in the Challenge on ESPN2 at 8:30 p.m. The Sun Devils will visit the Barn with their new coach Herb Sendek on Saturday, Dec. 2. The Gophers face difficult road tests at UAB on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with new head coach Mike Davis, and at UNLV on Friday, Dec. 22, before the Holiday break. Television broadcast details and game times for many of the contests are TBA and will be released as they are made official.
The Big Ten schedule will be released later this summer.
