  • 5 distinct learning environments (an open group study room, 5 small group/tutoring rooms, 2 computer labs, a silent study library, and a classroom)
  • 5 learning specialists (experienced teachers available to all student-athletes for consultation on learning concerns, academic skills, or coursework)
  • Scheduled tutors for math, science, and writing plus individual and on-call tutoring
  • 3 levels of study support for first-year students
  • Skills workshops and courses-in-common study groups
  • Open 70 hours per week (S 4-10, M-Th 8-10, F 8-4) for supervised study
  • A suggestion/request/complaint box is located at the main desk in the Learning Center (Room 225) and is checked daily

Learning Programs

Structured Study 7-10 pm Sunday-Thursday focuses on needs of the first-year student-athlete. Individual writing assistance and group tutoring in the most common math and science courses are scheduled nightly.

Learning Groups-Focus groups each semester address particular needs, i.e. transition, probation, international student issues, math anxiety, or assist with a particular class, often a self-paced course. A learning specialist facilitates the weekly or biweekly meeting.

The Enhancement Program is a developmental retention program which provides intensive academic support for a limited number of student-athletes. Each student works individually with a learning specialist for the academic year to develop personal learning strategies and improve academic skills. Students have required structured study and tutor time, and their academic progress is closely monitored.
