M.A.G.I.C. Mission Statement

The mission of the Minnesota M.A.G.I.C. program is to provide student-athletes with quality volunteer opportunities so that they may give back to the Twin Cities community. As Minnesota M.A.G.I.C. volunteers will represent their teams, the athletic departments, and the University of Minnesota. Participants will gain leadership through service while providing a positive influence in the community.

The MAGIC program is designed to provide student-athletes with quality community outreach opportunities.

  • Good way to meet other student-athletes!
  • Great opportunity to make a positive impact on the Twin Cities community!
  • It’s good experience to add to your resume!

Community Outreach Team Award

Winning teams (one women’s and one men’s) will be selected based on total number of community outreach activities participated in (according to the point system listed below) during the academic year from September 2005- through April 1st, 2006.

Winning teams will be announced at the Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet on Monday, April 17th, 2006.

Qualifying Community Outreach Activities

  • Service performed on behalf of the University of Minnesota Athletics
  • Primary beneficiary of community service is an organization outside of the University
  • Community Service activity must be documented through the MAGIC program (our goal is to have it documented each semester by Dec. 15th, April 1st, and August 1st.

Point System

  • ½ point = One student-athlete or coach participates in a community outreach activity
    Example: A student-athlete volunteers to read at a local elementary school
  • 1 point = Two or more student-athletes or coaches participate in a community outreach activity.
    Example: Five members of a team volunteer to participate in an activity at a local children’s hospital

** Maximum of 1 point per team for each community outreach activity.
** NCAA Compliance form must be filled out and approved for each event, in order for it to count toward your team’s points.
